Matchbook Learning is a non-profit charter management organization based in Indianapolis, Indiana. We operate two schools: Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63, serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and The Match High School and Career Center, which currently serves 9th & 10th grade students and will expand to include 11th grade students in the fall of 2026.

We are currently seeking a Classroom Assistant to join our Kindergarten Team at Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63.
Role Summary
The Kindergarten Classroom Assistant is a core member of the K team, partnering with the lead teacher to create a safe, joyful, structured classroom where young learners build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, language, and social-emotional skills. You’ll support whole-group and small-group instruction, coach routines, track student progress, and help families feel connected to the classroom.
What You’ll Do
Instruction & Student Support
- Support whole-group lessons and lead small groups/centers in reading, phonics, writing, and math (scripts/materials provided).
- Provide targeted support to students (reteach, guided practice, accommodations per IEP/504 under teacher direction).
- Model and coach classroom routines (arrival, transitions, cleanup, dismissal) to maximize learning time.
- Positively reinforce behavior using our schoolwide systems (Brag Boards, positive narration, clear consequence ladder).
- Prepare/organize materials, manipulatives, and learning centers; maintain a clean, safe, welcoming classroom.
- Supervise recess, lunch, hallway, and bus as assigned; support attendance routines.
- Assist with progress monitoring (quick checks, logging data) and student portfolios.
- Communicate warmly with families (notes, reminders, celebration messages) as directed by the teacher.
- Model Matchbook’s core values: urgency, teamwork, growth mindset, and joyful rigor.
- Attend/planned coaching check-ins and PD; implement feedback with consistency.
- Maintain confidentiality, safety protocols, and a professional, solutions-oriented mindset.
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to build caring relationships with young children; calm, consistent classroom presence
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructional plans and feedback
- Pass required background checks and meet state employment requirements
- Associate’s degree, 48+ college credits, or Indiana Paraprofessional certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience in early childhood/elementary settings (Kindergarten a plus)
- Basic comfort with classroom tech (Google Workspace, Chromebooks, student apps)
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
- Current First Aid/CPR (or willingness to complete)
