Matchbook Learning is a non-profit charter management organization based in Indianapolis, Indiana. We operate two schools: Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63, serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and The Match High School and Career Center, which currently serves 9th and 10th grade students and will expand to include 11th grade students in the fall of 2026.

We are seeking a mission-driven PE/Health Teacher who is passionate about student wellness, engagement, and achievement.


Position Overview

The PE/Health Teacher at The Match High School & Career Center provides high-quality physical education and comprehensive health instruction that equips students with the skills, knowledge, and habits needed to lead healthy, active lives. This teacher will develop engaging lessons, foster a positive and safe class culture, and collaborate with staff to support whole-child development.


Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver rigorous, developmentally appropriate PE and Health lessons aligned with Indiana Academic Standards in a non-traditional environment.
  • Teach students foundational skills in physical fitness, team sports, personal health, nutrition, and wellness.
  • Maintain an inclusive, safe, and motivating environment for all students.

Classroom Culture

  • Build strong relationships with students to support engagement and participation.
  • Model and reinforce expectations for teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility.
  • Ensure consistent routines, safety measures, and classroom management practices.

Student Support & Data

  • Assess student progress through a variety of methods and use data to adjust instruction.
  • Provide differentiated support to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff regarding progress and performance.

Collaboration & Professionalism

  • Partner with teachers, counselors, and school leaders to promote whole-student wellness.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide events.
  • Uphold the school’s mission, values, and culture expectations.


Requirements

Required

  • Valid Indiana Teaching License in Physical Education/Health or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Strong belief in the potential of all students.
  • Commitment to building a positive, structured, and relationship-centered learning environment.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching in an urban or charter school setting.
  • Experience coaching or leading extracurricular athletics or wellness programs.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Experience teaching PE in a non-traditional setting

  • Competitive Pay Range: $51,500 – $83,000, based on verified years of experience and licensure
