Matchbook Learning is a non-profit charter management organization based in Indianapolis, Indiana. We operate two schools: Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63, serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and The Match High School and Career Center, which currently serves 9th grade students and will expand to include 9th and 10th grade students in the fall of 2025.

We are currently seeking a PE Teacher to join our team at Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63 for the 2025-2026 school year.
Position Overview
The PE Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive physical education curriculum that promotes fitness, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop lifelong habits of physical activity while fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
These are the key responsibilities of a PE Teacher. Teachers may have other duties as assigned.
- Develop and implement an engaging K-8 physical education curriculum.
- Teach fundamental movement skills, sports, and fitness concepts.
- Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy habits.
- Adapt lessons to different skill levels and abilities.
- Organize and oversee physical activities, games, and events.
- Maintain a safe and structured learning environment.
- Collaborate with educators on cross-curricular initiatives.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Communicate with parents about student development.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field.
- Certification: Valid state teaching certification in Physical Education (K-8 or equivalent endorsement).
- Experience: Experience teaching PE to elementary and middle school students.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of fitness principles, sports rules, and child development.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and engage diverse learners.
- Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
- Commitment to fostering an active and inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, kneel, and sit on the floor to work with students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Physical Education or a related field.
- Experience coaching extracurricular sports or fitness programs.
- Familiarity with adaptive physical education strategies.
- Experience organizing school-wide fitness events or competitions.
- Bilingual proficiency (Spanish, ASL, or other languages is a plus).
